Part 2: The Plan

Yes, I'm on Medifast. There, I said it. That word takes on a whole meaning for you now. But let me tell you what it means to me. Before I started my diet, nothing. I had never heard of it. Of course, I had never considered dieting so I wasn't familiar with all of my options anyway! Now that I've been on my diet, everything. It means smaller pants and dress shirts. It means notching my belt tighter around my waist. I means putting on my tie and being able to leave enough fabric around my neck that it looks good. It means walking by a store front window and being impressed with how small I look, rather than looking the other way so I don't have to see how fat I am. Medifast is the intervention that I needed.

More specifically, the plan is called the 5 & 1 Plan. Five times a day I eat one of the nutritionally balanced Medifast meal replacements and one time a day I eat a lean & green meal. This meal can be anything I want so long as it fits within my limitations--chicken salad, veggie omelette, stir fry. The trick is to eat every 2-3 hours so I never feel quite empty and I have enough energy to get through the day. By doing this, my body is also rapidly burning through the calories I take in and burning off the fat that I have been storing. Sounds too good to be true, huh? Well it works. When I stick to it. (More on this later, being on a diet during the holidays sucks.)

This is a three-part plan that works. I am so thankful to be surrounded by supporting family and friends who want me to be successful. I covet the encouragement because this is the most difficult part of the plan. I don't want to slam the makers of Medifast, so let's just say that it's not my wife's cooking! Perhaps that's why it works....
